At the Mt. Gassan Main Shrine located on the mountaintop, the mountain opening ceremony is held to pray for ancestral requiem, safety in the summer mountain, bountiful harvest, and family safety.
◆August 13th Mt. Gassan Main Shrine Saito-sai Festival【Mt. Gassan Mountaintop Main Shrine】
During the festival, stupas, having been given a prayer mainly on Mt. Gassan, are set on fire in the homa fire-altar built at the Gassan Shrine on the mountaintop, to send ancestors’ spirits to their homes. In addition, a special sake called “hoihoi-zake” is offered for the repose of the spirits of those who do not have homes to go back.

Norito, ritual Shinto prayers, are performed for the Imperial Family to prosper and for the nation to thrive. In addition, prayers are offered for the peace and prosperity of summer climbers, pilgrims, and society.
